hello
Just tied my first Woolly Bugger!
After months of trying, I finally got my Woolly Bugger looking respectable. The marabou tail is still a bit thick but the chenille body came out really clean. Took it out to the local reservoir and landed 3 bass on the first trip! The slow strip retrieve really worked.
Morning hatch on the Madison β incredible!
Hit the Madison River at 6am and ran into a massive PMD hatch. Had a box full of Pheasant Tail Nymphs and they were absolutely killing it. Landed 8 trout in 3 hours, best day I've had in years. The water clarity was perfect β you could see every fish rise.
Tip: Use UV resin on your nymph wing cases
Game changer tip I learned at a fly shop last week β coat your Copper John and PT Nymph wing cases with UV resin instead of head cement. It creates a harder, more realistic shell and the shine attracts fish like crazy. It also makes the fly last much longer.
Question about saltwater fly materials
Getting into saltwater fly tying for an upcoming Florida Keys trip targeting bonefish. What bucktail colors work best for Crazy Charlies in clear flat conditions? I've seen white and tan most often but wondering if chartreuse is worth trying.
My Elk Hair Caddis collection β one year of tying
One year ago I couldn't even hold a bobbin properly. Today I have 47 Elk Hair Caddis flies in my box and they've caught trout in 6 different rivers. The EHC is the perfect beginner pattern β simple, effective, and forgiving. Keep tying, beginners!
